Rumi
A native Mac editor built for people who live in tabs.
Rumi is a fast, native macOS text and code editor — real window tabs, syntax highlighting for 30+ languages, and the small editing tools you reach for a dozen times a day, with Light and Dark themes that follow your system, all in a lightweight app that stays out of your way.
A small, well-built home for your text and code
Most Mac text editors are either too simple to be useful for real work, or too heavy for a quick edit. Rumi sits in between: a proper multi-tab editor with syntax highlighting, search, and the everyday tools developers and power users actually use, without turning into a full IDE you have to configure before you can type a single line.
It’s a native AppKit app — no Electron, no background processes, no telemetry. Open it, start typing, and it behaves like a well-made Mac app should.
What you can do with Rumi
Real macOS tabs
Every document opens in a proper tab in the same window. Switch between files instantly, reorder tabs, and keep your whole working set in one place.
Syntax highlighting for 30+ languages
Code, markup, and config files are colored correctly the moment you open them — no setup, no extensions to install.
Find & Replace, Go to Line, bracket matching
The editing tools you reach for constantly, built in from the start rather than bolted on as an afterthought.
Never lose your place
Bookmark any line and jump straight back to it later. Quit and reopen Rumi and every tab you had open comes right back, exactly where you left it.
Full Persian and Arabic support
Open and save in the encoding a file actually needs — including full, correct Persian and Arabic text, not just UTF-8.
Built-in file hashing
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512 digests for any open file straight from the Tools menu — no need to drop into Terminal.
No subscriptions. No accounts. No tracking.
Rumi is a straightforward, honest piece of software. That’s not marketing language — it’s just what the app is built to be, from the ground up.
- No account. There’s nothing to sign in to, ever.
- No telemetry. Rumi never reports usage, crashes, or analytics off your Mac.
- No network access. Opening, editing, and saving files never touches the internet.
- Signed and notarized by Apple. No “unidentified developer” warnings, no workarounds.
- Free, permanently. No trial, no paywall, no future price tag.
How it works
- Download and unzip. Download Rumi.zip and double-click it — macOS unzips it automatically.
- Move it to Applications. Drag Rumi.app into your Applications folder.
- Open it. Since it’s downloaded from the internet, macOS will ask you to confirm the first time — click Open. Rumi is signed and notarized by Apple, so there’s no “unidentified developer” warning.
- Optional: set it as your default editor. On first launch, Rumi will ask if you’d like it to open text files automatically. Your call — you can change this anytime later.

Rumi is made by Oxin Studio Inc., an independent software studio in Calgary, Alberta. We build small, focused Mac apps that do one thing well and stay out of your way. Common questions
Is Rumi really free?
Yes. Rumi is free to download and use, with no account, no subscription, and no trial limits.
Does it work on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs?
Yes. Rumi runs natively on both.
Does Rumi need an internet connection?
No. Once installed, Rumi runs entirely offline — opening, editing, and saving files never touches the network.
Can I make Rumi my default text editor?
Yes. Rumi offers to set itself as the default the first time you open it. You can also change this anytime from Finder — select a file, choose Get Info, and update “Open with” under Change All.
Does Rumi really handle Persian and Arabic text properly?
Yes. Rumi includes dedicated support for Persian and Arabic character encodings, including correct handling of Farsi-specific letterforms that many legacy text tools get wrong.
Is there a Windows version?
Not currently. Rumi is built specifically around native macOS APIs and design conventions.
